Marvel Mythology
Many of the heroes we have today have just been borrowed from ancient mythology. In some cases, they are even classified as archetypes, a pattern that is repeated. Using the text of Edith Hamilton’s Mythology: Timeless Tales of Gods and Heroes, and Marvel Comic’s website, compare two heroes and trace how epic heroes have evolved. Fill out the comparison chart and compose a short two paragraph response comparing and contrasting the two.

Pyramus and thisbe: Comparing an archetype
An archetype is an original pattern or model of which all things of the same type are representations or copies. The tale of Pyramus and Thisbe serves as the archetype for the "star-crossed lovers" we see in the famous drama Romeo and Juliet . For this assignment you will read Edith Hamilton's short retelling of Pyramus and Thisbe on pages 52 and 53 of the pdf document. Consider how Shakespeare took specific details and transformed them to fit his specific context and storytelling. What is similar? What is different? Compose a two to three paragraph analysis comparing the two and explaining how Shakespeare transformed this original material.
